Choose the purpose before the paperwork
Start with why you intend to stay: a visit, retirement, joining family, study, employment or another activity. Add your passport nationality, expected length of stay, dependents and intended activities. Those details are the questions to take to the Bureau of Immigration or the relevant Philippine embassy or consulate. A route used by a friend may depend on a different passport, family relationship or immigration history.
Do not assume permission to enter as a visitor also resolves employment or another regulated activity. Ask about the activity itself and obtain the current official conditions for the route you are considering. This guide organizes that conversation; it cannot decide an individual's eligibility.

Build a document request list
- Record the exact category and official office you consulted.
- Ask which originals, copies, translations or authentications are required for your situation.
- Confirm where you can apply, how appointments work and which fees apply now.
- Ask about dependents, reporting, renewal, travel out of the country and changes of circumstances.
- Keep the official checklist and your unanswered questions together before paying an intermediary.
Avoid sending passport scans to an unsolicited account claiming that approval is guaranteed. If you use professional assistance, confirm the person's identity, scope of work and written charges independently. An application receipt records a transaction; it is not the same as an approval or a new permission to stay.
Plan arrival separately
Check the official eTravel FAQ for your traveler category. It describes a free registration process within the 72-hour window and retaining the QR code; applicability and exemptions are on the official site. eTravel is separate from a visa and does not guarantee admission.
Keep your first accommodation, onward travel arrangements where required and important documents accessible during the journey. After admission, read the date and conditions recorded for your actual stay. Download the arrival checklist to record that date and your next action.
